Question:  We have a project where some existing pull boxes and conduit are set in structural concrete and are not easy to relocate or deepen or change.

The pull boxes have a solid concrete bottom as well as walls.  They are No. 6 in plan dimension (18x30 lid) but their depth varies from only 5 to about 12 inches (different boxes are different depths).  Three conduits enter each box in the bottom (not through sides).  We need to run a 24 strand trunk loose tube single mode fiber cable through each box plus splice a 12 strand lateral cable in the pull box (it will use the third conduit).  If necessary, we could get away with splicing only four lateral strands (two in each direction in trunk), but would like to splice at least 8 strands.

Do you know of a compact outdoor rated (must be water tight, as the boxes are typically full of water - no drain) fiber splice enclosure that would be small enough for use in such shallow boxes together with coiled cable?  I'm assuming the 5 inch deep boxes are out of the question, but perhaps there is something that could work in a 7 inch deep box?

Answer:  Look at the Coyote Runt splice case.  The cost is approximently$125 per piece including the splice tray. However, it will require proper installation to avoid water penetration.  http://www.newtechindustries.com/newtech/preformed_line_products/coyote_runt_closure_8006671.htm

You might also want to get clear on how much cable is coiled in the box.  It's also usually very important to know how the conduit enters the box.
