Question:  There is new striping on Route 237 near I-880.  It's a double white stripe between the HOV lane and adjacent lane.  What's it mean?

Answer:  The changes were made in advance of a new Toll lane that is being implemented by VTA.  Thanks to Sgt. Hagen at the California Highway Patrol who pointed me at the right section of the California Vehicle Code.  CVC 21655.8.a says a fine can be issued to drivers who cross a double white line to enter or exit the HOV lane.  Entry or exit can only legally be made over a single white line or a dashed white line.  The photo below shows what the new striping looks like and the full text in the CVC can be read at  http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d11/vc21655_8.htm
